BOB and pimpIng out my blog for a chance at a free handbag

Scout got BOB today. Judging was - different. The judge had the handlers put the dogs on the table crosswise instead of lengthwise. When he was trying to decide who to put up as winner's bitch, he had the handlers put the girls on the table - crosswise again - and at the same time!!

OK - about the handbag. I ran across a link to http://www.handbagplanet.com/. They are rolling out a new site, and as part of this, they are having a 24 drawings for 24 handbags in 24 hours. I got 25 extra votes by putting this on my blog. You too can pimp your blog for a bag!

Mom Update

Mom is leaving Siskin tomorrow. Medicare only pays for 3 weeks of post-hospitalization rehab. She is going to a skilled nursing facility nearby which specializes in stroke rehab. Luckily this place is right here in my little town (right across the street from Wally's for those of you who love their breakfast buffet!)

Mom has made great strides over the last week and a half. She is now walking unassisted and is climbing stairs. She can move herself from bed to chair and has learned to dress herself, even tho she still can't do anything with her left hand. (We hear the use of the hand is the last thing to come back.)

She had a little rough patch after being there about a week, which we have pretty much attributed to being caused by medication. NOTE: if doctors suggest that your elderly parent take Lyrica for neuro pain - know that vivid, debilitating nightmares seem to be a fairly common side effect in the elderly.

Once we got that our of her system, she became a rehabbing fireball. She has worked so hard and is determined to get to where she can go back home and live on her own again.

Cinderella can go to the ball now

I finished Avery's Cinderella dress tonight:

See the glitter on the poofs and sleeves? Now there is little silver fairy dust all over my house (mixed in with the dog hair, of course).

Don't you love the little gloves? I found them on eBay and they match exactly.

And while I worked, the cardis slept.

My Dream House was on HGTV tonight

A while back I was piddling around online and found plans for my dream house. Modern design, all on one level, open and light, just big enough.

Of course, there was one thing missing, so I edited it in to this drawing - the multi-purpose room for office, sewing room and maybe even an elevated tub for dog bathing.

I was showing this to Heidi and Laura this weekend when I saw that the first house from these plans would on Beyond the Box on HGTV tonight. It's the last segment of the show. I want it even more now!

Honey's High School Girls

These pretty puppies are Scout and two of her littermates, Grace and Moira. (BTW - this picture has shown up on luggage tags being sold by dog show vendors!)

This past weekend, their breeder, Marla, was at a show with Grace and her owner, Dawn. After the weekend, Marla talked with Dina, who owns Moira, and told her about what a cute and perky thing Grace is - that "if she were human, she'd be a cheerleader."

Dina replied, "That would make Moira a Mean Girl - the kind who writes things on the bathroom walls about who Grace slept with."

Dina shared this story with another Cardi friend of ours, Michele, who wondered if "that made Scout the prom queen who does it all - captain of the field hockey team and valedictorian who goes on to find a cure for cancer."

While I do appreciate that Michele thinks so highly of my girl, and I agree that she is pretty and sweet enough to be prom queen - I just don't thing the rest fits Scout.

She is plenty smart (although thankfully not as scary smart as her buddy Spencer), but I think she would be the type of girl who would bring home Bs to avoid the appearance of looking too smart. And she wouldn't play field hockey - after all, we live in the South! Here, girls play softball in full make-up and with their hair tied back in color-coordinated ribbons. I also doubt that she would cure cancer, but she probably does have all it takes to grow up to be governor of a small state and a future Vice Presidential candidate!!

Marla also said that Honey would be the Mom who would never believe that her girls could ever do anything wrong.

Tina Fey may save the country

On the road less traveled

I took a different route to the hospital yesterday and had a good laugh at this.

Scout went BOS today.

Scout has a good day in her underwear

Even out of coat, she was a pretty girl today and was glad to see her handler Cheryl too.

Like My New Header?

A while back, I posted about how I had been following the story of Stephanie and Christian, the couple who were in a plane crash. Their story was on the Today Show today:

What, you may be asking, does that have to do with Janet's fabulous new header? Well, if you click the link at the top right of this page, you will go to a site where a woman named Kaylyn is doing her part to generate funds for the Nielsons' recovery fund.

During the month of September, if you make a contribution of $15, she will make a custom header for you. I ordered another one from her with an autumn theme that I will be switching to soon.

More good news

The therapists are here today after all. The physical therapist has been in and gave us some very encouraging news - Mom should be able to go directly to Siskin rehab hospital without having to go to a nursing home first. Siskin is a great facility, and it is very close to my office in Chattanooga.

A good morning

I walked in the hospital room this morning and found Mom sitting up feeding herself breakfast. She had a good night by herself.

Doc was pleased with her progress. We're going to get her up in a chair today. Unfortunately, since it is a holiday, we won't see any of the therapists today, but tomorrow speech and occupational therapists will be coming in addition to the physical therapist.

We will meet with the social worker to plan our next steps. She could be moving as soon as Wednesday.
